SADDLEWORTH BEERWALK
2002

Not quite as demanding as the usual road races but still retaining the important elements of beer and socialising.
There was the added attraction that some of our social but not so sporting members could also participate.

John, Ian, Janet, and Mike line up before the start.
Ann and Mike swap places behind the camera.

The information Mike had for this event was 2 p.m. start and a list of the pubs which were the ten beer stops so from the places to be passed through he worked out that the distance would be about 5 miles. Also there were no suggestions about clothing, not a problem with races, so it was assumed ordinary, casual, walking gear would be in order at the registration area though it soon became apparent that something a little more extravagant would have been more appropriate.
Would you Adam an Eve iy

In fact being a little underdressed was the feeling until these two turned up.

With some time to spare before the start and no facilities at the registration area it was decided the only recourse was to find a pub.
No surprise there then !

Fortunately it turned out to be the first pub on the route so after a pint inside with quite a number of other walkers the first "free" drink was taken very soon after 2 p.m.
