SADDLEWORTH BEER WALK

Greenfield

The Wellington public house, Greenfield

The Wellington

Although the "free" beer had been paid for in the entry fee this did not mean you could have your drink whenever you wanted. No.
Strict times between which "free" beer could be taken at each pub had been laid down no doubt to assist in the policing of the event, and with over 1400 entrants this was understandable, so there was a little wait until 2 p.m. had passed before the first of the ten halves could be taken.

Beer, beer, we want some beer
This was very frustrating, a trestle table full of untouchable beer, but did mean the full scale of the
event could be seen unfolding with a very useful advantage i.e. beer in hand before the rest arrived.
